Upgrades for older building wiring
Quatrix recommends the BTicino 2-wire SFERA digital intercom - it just works.
Upgrading an intercom using older cabling is quite normal and works for most buildings.
Audio systems are easy, and the BTicino 2-wire system works seamlessly over most cable types and architectures.
A video system needs more consideration, the existing cable quality and type of cable is normally fine, but accessing cable joins, and understanding cabling architecture is important to ensure good quality video images across a building or complex.
We've been installing the BTicino 2-wire system for 15 years, we understand its qualities, and know it will work for most buildings across Sydney.
BTicino is Italian-designed, will be available for a minimum of 10-15 years and is readily available in Sydney.

FAQs
Still have questions? We’re here to help. Send us a message and our team will get back to you shortly.
-
How do we know what cabling we have?
QUATRIX technicians will check the cabling that your existing intercom has and advise what kind of system is compatible. Occasionally there are combined cabling set-ups but these can all be worked with or updated to provide the system functionality the building requires.
-
Can we have a video intercom on our existing cabling?
Your existing cabling has be checked at the entry panel, distribution and handsets and our technicians can then assess if existing cables can support a video system. Generally the answer is yes - as digital intercom equipment only requires 2 cables instead of the previous analogue 5 cables so there are spares available. Occasionally, we might find very old or damaged cabling but this can always be replaced to enable the system to carry video signals.
-
Can we have WiFi connectivity on a new intercom?
If your cabling can handle video then it is definitely possible to have a WiFi enabled handset. Video handsets with WiFi are connected through the individual unit's internet router so calls to your intercom handset can also ring on your smartphone. With the Door Entry App on your phone, calls can be answered, visitors seen and the door released from wherever you are.
-
Can we install a wireless system?
There is new wireless technology available which is useful in situations where new cabling would be difficult and unreasonably expensive. Whenever a building has the cabling available, we encourage utilising these so that the system is not disrupted during signal outages. Buildings may choose wireless for ease and cost benefits.
