Fobs, garage remotes, mobile credentials
Access control devices
Access control devices refer to the range of products that can be used to enable access into a building.
Garage remotes are used to open garage doors. They send an encoded wireless signal to the door, and they can also control more than one door, hence the multiple buttons on the devices shown.
Security fobs are presented at card readers at pedestrian gates, front doors, or within lifts.
They contain an inbuilt credential that enables them to be programmed to a specific person and permits access through authorised doors and to a specific floor in lifts.
There are three main levels of encryption with fobs: low, medium, and high security encryption (our terms, not the technical jargon).
Low-encryption fobs tend to be grey. This level of encryption is fine if you live in a low-risk building with no overcrowding or fob copying, but it can be very easily copied.
Medium security fobs are okay and work for many buildings, but they are difficult to copy and can be supplied by all accredited security companies.
High-encryption fobs are very unlikely to be copied, as they have a specific encryption written into them. This encryption normally ties you to a security company, which is fine and something we install as it means your building is safe. But ensure you trust your security company, as you can't buy fobs from anyone else.
Mobile credentials act like fobs, but are allocated onto an app for smartphones, enabling fob access using the phone instead of carrying a fob. A great advancement in building access, and we supply a lot of these.

-
Can a fob be deactivated from the system?
Yes, a fob can be deactivated from most Access Control systems.
Some systems have remote access, allowing the fob to be deactivated without attending your building.
If not, a service call is required to attend to logonto the system.
But really important, we need to know the passwords to access your system.
-
We don't know the login details to our Access Control system. Can you still add fobs to our system?
The password to some Access Control systems can be reset.
However, resetting the password on many systems requires a full system default, meaning the system must be reprogrammed and new fobs issued to all residents.
-
Are mobile credentials secure?
Yes, mobile credentials are very secure.
They can't be copied or transferred to a different phone. If a phone is lost or stolen, the credentials can be disabled, and the phone access will not work again.
-
Can a garage remote be programmed to open my personal garage as well as the main gate?
Yes, if you have a two-button garage remote supplied from the Access Control system, you can install a receiver for your personnel garage. This enables a second button to be programmed to allow the single remote to open both doors.
